Cotton Organic Mattress

Thankfully, nowadays we have a safe, healthy alternative as organic mattresses don’t contain any harmful chemicals. One may argue that usual mattresses are also made from cotton. What is also worth mentioning is the use of organic wool in the manufacture of organic mattresses. Organic wool is added to the outer shell of an organic mattress to give it fire retardant properties replacing fire retardant chemicals like PBDEs used in standard mattresses. To summarize, wool, cotton, rubber, hemp, and other raw materials are the basic ingredients of organic mattresses.

There are two types of organic mattresses:

1. An organic cotton mattress, differs from standard mattresses just with the quality of the cotton used, build with springs and cotton on the outside and on the inside.

2. An organic rubber mattress, on the other hand, has no springs, his core is made from natural rubber from Malaysia, reminds foam mattresses with a core of rubber.

Out of the two organic mattress types, a cotton organic mattress is the most popular as it is more affordable. The rubber for this type of organic mattress originates from a Malaysian rubber tree called Hevea Brasiliensis. Demand for mattresses made from natural materials is increasing, so even well known brands of original mattress companies, such as Serta, are turning to organic. Organic mattress cotton pads and waterproof covers are additional gadgets complementing organic mattresses and protecting their surface for even better longevity.

Executive summary about the mattress cover by Kate Lee

BabeSafe mattress covers are like large plastic bags designed to wrap around a crib, bassinet or co-sleeper mattress and seal in any toxic gases. Instructions:

1. Order the correct size BabeSafe mattress cover for your baby's mattress type and measurements. Size E fits standard U.S. crib mattresses that are 5-inches thick, while size F fits those that are 7-inches thick. Size B fits standard crib mattresses in the United Kingdom.

2. Remove the mattress from the crib, bassinet or co-sleeper, and slide the BabeSafe cover over the mattress, so that the side with the writing is on the bottom of the mattress.

3. Remove the yellow strip that covers the adhesive on the end of the mattress cover.

4. Wrap the open end of the mattress cover snugly over the end of the mattress. Press the adhesive strip to the underside of the mattress to hold it in place. Make sure that the mattress cover seals tightly.

5. Place the wrapped mattress back in the crib, bassinet or co-sleeper, with the side of the BabeSafe mattress cover that has the writing face down.

6. Put a 100 percent cotton fitted sheet on top of the wrapped mattress. Do not use a mattress pad, waterproof mattress protector or any form of synthetic bedding on top of the BabeSafe mattress cover.

7. To clean the BabeSafe mattress cover, do not unwrap the mattress. Simply wipe the cover with a rag, using warm water and soap, then dry it with a clean rag.
